About Me

Hi. I’m the praying writer, better known as Emily. Thanks for visiting my website.

The Beginning of My Story

I grew up in the Harry Potter generation. While my friends waited for their Hogwarts letters, I fantasized about emulating J. K. Rowling. I began creating stories probably before beginning to read or write. By third grade, I decided my life goal was to be a published author.

Later on, around the time high school students begin taking career assessment tests, I realized full-time authorhood may be beyond me. Especially in the fantasy genre. Instead, I had developed a craving for true stories, biographies, and documentaries. I joined the student newspaper staff and went on after high school to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Mass Communication.

Throughout this time, my other passion was Jesus. My parents raised me on Bible stories and Christian radio. But as I began seeking truth, I questioned whether what I believed was real. It was then that I came across The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel. This book recounted Strobel’s journey from a cynical atheistic journalist to a defender of Christ. After two years of research and investigation, the journalist who had set out to debunk Christianity found himself believing in Jesus.

For the next few years, I absorbed all I could learn about archaeological, historical, and scientific evidence supporting the Bible and Christ’s claims. My research led me to the conclusion that whatever question I threw at God, he could handle it. He answered enough of my questions that I knew I could trust him. But he wouldn’t answer everything. In the same way, parents can only explain so much for the understanding of a three-year-old child. God gave me peace to accept that I can’t understand it all. If I could, then he wouldn’t be the mysterious, beautiful divine that I have come to adore and worship.

A few years later, I realized that my faith had stopped relying on Christian apologetics. I no longer needed the evidence and arguments. I didn’t need every answer because I had God himself. His son Jesus wasn’t just a children’s story character. I had met him. I had heard his voice. Jesus was with me. He was as real and true as my own parents.

He remains the most important part of my life. I’ve left behind making up fantasy stories and now use my writing to share the greatest Truth, better than any fairy tale or epic, that is the good news (or gospel) of Jesus Christ. If you have further questions, ask me! I’d be happy to talk with you more or suggest other resources for your search.
